What do you do when you need to place a phone call and don't know the number? I have often tried 411 through my cell phone with probably less than a 50% success rate that the number given to me was the contact I requested. On top of getting the wrong number, I refuse to pay to have the number dialed, so I have to be in a place to write down the number - very inefficient and frankly, a waste of time.
But Google, that repository of all data, has announced a new service ... and this one may be as good as it gets! Pull out your cell phone and save the following number under Google 411- 800-466-4411 (this is 800 - g00g - 411).
Now, if you need to make a phone call, dial Google 411; state the location and the contact (could be a business name, an individual, or a type of business like Pizza Delivery); and stand by to be connected to the contact at no charge.
Want value-added service? If you phone accepts texting, Google will send you a text with the contact information as well. If you have Internet access with you phone, you can say "Map It" and Google will place your contact on the map.
Now that is a service that makes sense. This is definitely a tech tip to share with your buddies and friends. You may even become their hero for a day! For more information you can view a video here:
